Update on Obama Response: Campaign Releases New Ad

by admin ·

Holy crap. They got this out fast. I already noted that the Obama campaign responded rapidly to Hillary’s new “It’s 3 A.M.” ad, but now they’ve got their own take on that ad. I don’t know yet if this is just for viral distribution on the internet, or if it’s airing on television Obama’s You Tube site claims this ad is airing in Texas.

The Finger Pointing Begins in the Clinton Campaign

by admin ·

I’ve made no secret of my distaste for Hillary Clinton’s two senior advisers, Mark Penn and Harold Ickes. Neither of them ever had a good bead on what this race was going to be about (despite Penn’s reputation as a great pollster) and both of them contributed rhetoric to the race that could only serve to damage their candidate. And even though we’re still a few days away from March 4, the finger pointing inside the campaign has begun to escalate as senior staffers each try to shift blame to one another for their candidate’s flailing campaign. The New York Observer has a piece out today with a straight-forward title: Ickes: Blame Penn.

Obama’s Ground Game

by admin ·

Time published a piece this week which takes a look at Obama’s grassroots operation in Ohio. Obama’s ground game has been a key element of his startlingly large margins of victory. I wrote some more about this here after a Wall Street Journal article last month which examined his ground game in South Carolina. The author of the piece noted how Obama was skirting around the typical avenues to organizing because Clinton had all the establishment endorsements. The article was published pre-South Carolina, and at the time, there was still some question at just how influential those establishment leaders in the black community would prove to be. This answer was “not very,” and Obama rode on to an overwhelming victory.

Will Democrats Jump Ship to McCain the So-Called Maverick?

by admin ·

Recently, I’ve been reading a lot of comments by both Obama and Hillary supporters that they would refuse to vote for the other if their candidate failed to get the nomination. I’ve seen such comments here and elsewhere on the internet. There is honestly a segment of voters who would refuse to vote Democratic if they don’t get exactly who they want on the ticket. Most often, this “reasoning” is followed by the statement that they would rather vote for McCain than have to vote for a Democrat they didn’t support in the primaries. This, quite frankly, is beyond asinine. The differences between Obama and Hillary are minimal and are mostly focused on foreign policy. Obama is a bit more diplomatic in his approach. Hillary is slightly more hawkish. Both are far from the rabid lunacy of neo-conservative policy.

Latino Voters Abandon GOP

by admin ·

This is according to CNN. Other than the Cuban contingent in Florida, I’m not sure there was a time when the GOP played strongly with Latino voters. It’s kinda hard to do what with labeling them criminals and threatening to ship them back to the border (which, incidentally would cost us a fortune). While McCain may be more sensible on immigration than his counter-parts within the Republican party, he still wears that mantle. He is this centuries version of Hester Prynne (of Scarlett Letter fame).

Just in January. Haven’t seen Clinton’s numbers. I’m sure they’re formidable as well.

Edwards Supporters Going To Obama

by admin ·

If the last few days of Gallup’s Daily Presidential Tracking Poll are to be believed, then Edwards supporters are breaking for Obama.

Gallup Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

Following his withdrawal from the race, from January 28th to the 30th, Edwards dropped by 6% (14% to 8%). During the same period Obama gained 5%. Hillary did not gain a single percentage point. So, Obama’s gain was directly proportional to Edward’s decline. This looks like pretty strong evidence that Obama is picking up most if not all of Edward’s supporters.

Hillary Clinton Wants FL and MI to Count

by admin ·

This is an unbelievably low point of the Clinton campaign. She wants delegates from the states that were stripped of those delegates by failing to adhere to the Democratic primary schedule. Nobody campaigned in Michigan, and she was the only one on the ballot there after the other main contenders took themselves out of that race in respect of Democratic Party rules. These delegates would not actually reflect the will of the voters because they didn’t have any other viable options besides Clinton.

Lonely Giuliani

by admin ·

Ah, poor Rudy Giuliani. America’s Mayor. The tough-talking city boy with an out-sized ego and malnourished intellect. Tied for third with Mike Huckabee in Florida. Florida, he would tell us so often, will change everything. Now he trails the front runners there, John McCain and Mitt Romney, by 15 points.

Obama Takes South Carolina by Huge Margin

by admin ·

Barack Obama is up 55-27 over Hillary Clinton with 93% of precincts reporting. A few of the counties with only a few precincts reported — Chester, Hampton & Richland counties, most notably — contain far high numbers of black citizens than the counties which have reported their votes, and far higher concentrations of blacks than the overall state average. Hampton and Chester are both about 45-50% black, so Obama will probably edge up a couple more points before it’s over.
