And so it was, with a chorus of Senate voices having proclaimed the urgency and importance of the issue that the Great Climate Change Debate of 2008 ended on Friday morning, after three and a half days, with a procedural vote that effectively shelved the bill until next year. A motion by Democrats to end debate and move to a final vote, requiring 60 votes to succeed, fell far short, with 48 senators in favor and 36 against.

Monkeys Control Robot Arm With Their Thoughts

OK, now this is just crazy. Scientists have developed a system by which monkeys can control a robotic arm using only their thoughts. Clearly these must be those monkeys who became super-intelligent following their forays into outer space in the earliest days of the space program. Once again, The Simpsons called it first.

Elizabeth Edwards Slams the Press in the NY Times

Elizabeth Edwards lays down some major whup-ass in a New York Times Op-ed:

For the last month, news media attention was focused on Pennsylvania and its Democratic primary. Given the gargantuan effort, what did we learn?

Well, the rancor of the campaign was covered. The amount of money spent was covered. But in Pennsylvania, as in the rest of the country this political season, the information about the candidates’ priorities, policies and principles — information that voters will need to choose the next president — too often did not make the cut. After having spent more than a year on the campaign trail with my husband, John Edwards, I’m not surprised.
